"I usually squirm with embarrassment whenever the media get their teeth into the church. The trouble is that, most of the time; the observations and comments of the secular press, radio and television are spot on. We know things have reached a sorry state of affairs when the world rebukes the church for its godlessness."

"Can anyone please put us out of our misery here? We've heard the strangest thing, and simply cannot believe it.
Did Gerald Coates really get a group of men to lift Paul Weaver up on some couch-like object, proclaiming that they were lifting him up towards God? Did Gerald Coates really sprinkle water on Paul Weaver proclaiming that this was the dew of heaven? Did Gerald Coates really present Paul Weaver to those young men, and tell them that they should honour him, as he is their spiritual father?
"Is Paul Weaver aware of the fact that this is how the Pope is treated? He too is carried in this manner, and called 'Father' — contrary to Jesus' specific instructions."

"Now that they have all sobered up, this whole sorry affair has proved to be a bit of an embarrassment _ and has led to the latest sport in discernment circles, which we call 'Spot the Spin'."

I used to attend the church in question but long ago yealded to the call of the Holy Spirit to leave.
I too have heard these same stories. Some might even be true or they might not. I have family within this church and do not wish to see them hurt.
The storys worry me but I do not feel my family will openly discuess this without simply defending them...
I do know that in 2 Peter 2:3 it says: "By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words: for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber."
If they is evil afoot expect God to deal harshly with them. If there is nothing but stories.... just be carefull that you descern wisely.
While I can't support this sermon I can not say that it is not true.
I'm going to let God judge this one.
