Let us start with the basics. As followers of
Christ we are priests. Jesus is our
High Priest.
These are basic truths of the
Bible. Now comes the questions.
It is written that there is no other mediator between God and man but Jesus our high priest.
So here is a thought: when priests nominate one priest over themsleves they make him or her high priest. Effectivally a mediator between God and them selves just as they are a mediator bwteen the high priest and the peopel or the people and the high priest.
This seems self evident.
So now we appoint people over us as "pasters" or spiritual authorities.
By doing this we make them high priests and that places them equal to Jesus (
idoiltry) or we abdicate ourselves from the God given role as priests (a betrailal of Christ).
Whatever way you cut this issue there is not a "nice" way of looking at it.
The quastion then is do we reject Christ, commit idolatry or both when we set priests over ourselves. Even when we give them "other names" (such as vicar, paster (the title least fitting to the roll it is used for), elder (again a missuse of a word), Priest, father, mediator, spiritual authority, decon, bishop etc etc) it seems that we rob ourselves of our great heritage in Christ.
